On the 3rd February 1955, Fred Snell our founding Rector welcomed 50 new boys and their families to Peterhouse. As the pioneers of the school these boys were to lay the foundation of a school which, 70 years later, has become one of Southern Africa’s leading independent schools.Urban legend has it that, on day one, these boys had to go to Tarisa siding, about 2 kilometers from the school to collect the water tank that was to be the hot water boiler for Ellis House.
